FUTURE OF HVRC AND BRC – to be discussed at the AGM
We have been discussing, over a number of weeks, our concerns with BRC and due to their spiralling costs we can no longer keep our Membership fees at the existing prices. There will be a need for a considerable increase and with the introduction of BRC’s Sport-80 platform a change in the way we receive our new memberships and renewals. BRC are now asking for memberships to be paid directly to them via their new platform, Sport-80 launched earlier this month. The 2024 pricing to become a member of BRC alone will be increased from £20 to £24.
You may have received an email from the BRC asking you to create your password for your account. We respectfully ask that you DO NOT renew your membership directly with them until we have reached a final decision to remain or leave BRC. As we understand it you will only become a member of BRC and NOT Hope Valley Riding Club.
We are seeking clarification from BRC to understand how Sport-80 can work alongside Hope Valley Riding Club. For example our current joining fee for an adult is £27.00, we currently pay £20.00 per member to the BRC and the remaining £7.00 goes towards to running of the club, grading of the arena, repairs, insurance etc. Our junior memberships are break even and we subsidise family memberships. If members pay BRC directly via Sport-80 they will be paying £24.00 (2024 pricing) and there will be nothing coming to HVRC, hence the need to arrange a separate membership for joining our club.
With the impact of greater costs from BRC and the uncertainty of how the Sport-80 is going to affect the club a decision has been made to look into leaving BRC, seeking our own insurance and running Hope Valley Riding Club as an independent riding club. If anybody has any concerns about leaving BRC, then please let the Committee know your thoughts preferably before the AGM at the end of this month.
We will be discussing this topic at the AGM on 27th November 2023 and the attending members will be given an opportunity to vote remain or leave. A final decision will be made after this meeting.
The Committee are feeling under pressure and we would really appreciate your input in helping us to move forward together for a successful 2024.

RIDING HAT STANDARDS
From 1st January 2023, BRC will no longer be accepting 2 hat standards and will therefore need to re-tag.
In order to ensure riders are wearing the most up to date riding hats, please note that from the 1st January 2023, the following hat standards will no longer be accepted, due to the age of hats made to these standards:
1. PAS O15 1998
2. SNELL 2001
A new colour of hat tag will be required for BE, PC and BRC from 1st January 2023.
PAS 015 – 2011 and SNELL – E2016 are still both acceptable as are the remaining hat standards as found on page 36 of the BRC 2021 Handbook.
Click the link below to see all hat standards:-
https://www.hopevalleyridingclub.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2021-BHS-Approvals-Hat-Guide-v1-1.pdf
For safety and insurance reasons, HVRC members must wear a hat conforming to the new standards when riding at all HVRC clinics and competitions.
BRC VOLUNTER LEAGUE
This is a completely free to enter league to really recognise all the hard work and dedication of our volunteers at Club, Area and Championship competitions. With a chance to win some fantastic prizes and rosettes at the end of the year. It is really simple to get involved and volunteers don’t have to be BRC members but they do need to be registered in the Volunteers club. Then they simply just need to submit what hours they have done volunteering each month.
