HORSEWATCH ALERT

May 27: Please note that there have been three further attacks on horses in the Eyam and Stoney Middleton area, one of which resulted in a fatality.  Please can all horse owners be especially vigilant and report anything suspicious to the Police immediately.

Local station contact:  Buxton Police Station:  01298 72100
Derbyshire Police Horsewatch Co-ordinator:  Sgt Erica Green:  Office:  01298 74082   Mobile: 07970 848416, also PC 1003 Paul Glover.

Procedures for thefts
1.   Contact your local police to report the crime/incident
2.   Give Police all the details of the stolen animal/property and note the crime number
3.   Contact a Horsewatch co-ordinator for your area and give them any updated information since registering with Horsewatch - they will circulate details nationally.

Sergeant Erica Green is our contact for High Peak Horse Watch.  'Horse Watch' is a national civilian voluntary organisation that works with local police to prevent and inform members about equine crime.  Hope Valley Riding Club recently held a meeting at which Erica Green spoke to members about Horse Watch and the club will be organising a crime prevention talk in the next couple of months.

The following will be helpful to horseowners:

Complete an identification chart for each horse/pony you own (there is a blank form below) and keep in a safe place with a good photo of each animal which clearly shows their distinguishing  marks.  If your animal is subsequently lost/stolen then these details can be quickly passed to the police.

Register with Derbyshire Constabulary's Ringmaster System, which will enable you to receive crime/community safety related information and advice from the police by telephone, fax, Email or text message, whichever is most convenient to you.   Fill in the Ringmaster form below (or send all relevant details) and return to Sgt Andy Torkington, 'B' Division Community Safety Unit, Silverlands, Buxton, Derbyshire SK17 6QJ

Visit the Amber Valley Horsewatch website.  This site has much useful information on both Horsewatch, crime details and the law relating to horseowners eg. recent legislation re towing weights, transport of animals etc.  Click here:  http://horsewatch.belperschool.co.uk

Read the Horsewatch security advice and Horse Watch crime reports on the documents below.
